Respect Life Committee

The St. Cajetan Respect Life Committee seeks to increase respect for all human life from conception to natural death.  This is accomplished through prayer, education, and action.  The Respect Life Committee distributes pro-life materials and seeks to educate through bulletin articles and promoting pro-life events and speakers.  Members attend conferences and pray for an end to abortion.

The Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge Bishop of Arlington,  current Chairman of the USCCB Committee on Pro-Life Activities recently wrote on the one-year anniversary of the Dobbs decision which overturned Roe v Wade: May all people of faith and good will work together to proclaim that human life is a precious gift from God; that each person who receives this gift has responsibilities toward God, self and others; and that society, through its laws and social institutions, must protect and nurture human life at every stage of its existence.

And former chair Timothy Cardinal Dolan wrote in a 2016 Respect Life Statement: God made each of us in his own image and likeness.  He desires to be united with us forever in a loving relationship.  God loves us, treats us with respect, and ask us to do the same with others.  Every person is sacred and must be treated with the dignity they deserve.  No one should ever be treated callously or carelessly – everyone should be cherished and protected!  From each tiny child waiting to be born, to individuals nearing death, all are precious and deserve our care and protection.  Women and men suffering after abortion, individuals tempted to end their lives, couples longing to conceive a child, people pushed to the margins of society by a “throwaway culture,” expectant mothers facing challenging pregnancies and every other person – each “has a place in God’s heart from all eternity.
